Assembling Nose Strut |
|
|
Have ritually touched the strut on the way past to fighting fires in Lancefield the last 4 days, more to come. Following is not logged in the order I did it, but in a logical sequence for each sub-assembly, seeing I'm doing 3 steps at once. Prepared NG-5, sanded mating surface with 220g, scrubbed with a scourer, aluminiprep, alodine, prime non-mating surfaces. Using dremel grinding drum like a spotface, ground the bolting surface of MKNG-6 flat. Floxed NG-5 onto Nose Strut and torqued up MS24694-S72 (vice plans -S70) and MS21042-3 to 25 "lb. Plans process for fitting NG-30 to fuselage and making/fitting F-0 in one go just seems completely manic, will break it up into steps, meaning more cure cycles, but giving the opportunity for inspection on the way and a bit more precision. Cut out F-0 from 1/4" H100, applied 1 x BID on AFT face, 2 x BID FWD and weighted for cure. Checked Feather Lite nosebowl for fit. Cut out F-5 from 0.2" 18lb foam, intending it to curve around the NG-30 onto the horizontal bit. Coz I want to. Applied 2 x BID on FWD face & peel ply and weighted for cure. |
