Riveting the rear Spar |
|
|
Finally, putting this bad boy together. I had my fill for the mean time with the deburring, drilling, tapering and priming. Today, I got to rivet the rear spar together. And it came out really well, if I do say so myself. That riveting experience in Joe's hanger on Jim's Air Tractor really set me up nice for today's task. I only had to drill out 2 rivets because they were half riveted down and the head looked like there was a 1/2 mm space between the reinforcement bar and the rivet head. I did it by the book too. I drilled out the head and use an 1/8" pin punch to punch out the rest. Smooth as pie. I then re-riveted the 2 F*&% ups and presto chango, perfect rear spar. Rivet tape is essential in order not to get any smiley faces on the rivet. I am proud to say that I didn't get any. Thank's Joe for the good apprenticeship skills you are teaching me. |
