MERFI at Grimes Field, Urbana Ohio - Page 1 I decided to take a break today from building and attend the Middle East Regional Fly-In at Grimes Field in Urbana, Ohio. I figured there would be a number of RV-8s present to inspect closely to pick up some hints and ideas. I also planned to look at some of the particularly difficult areas from a builder's perspective. The plan was to depart Dayton International Airport about 0800 for the short hop over to Urbana but my Archer let me down for the first time. I apparently have either a battery or starter problem. I suspect it's the battery but the troubleshooting will have to wait. I hate driving to a fly-in but there was no choice. Anyway, Grimes Field is only 40-45 minutes away so it all worked out. There was an array of RVs at the fly-in but strangely enough, I found no RV-8s. I did find two F-1 Rockets, RV-3s, RV-4s, RV-6s, RV-7s and at least one RV-10. I took too many pictures to include here but in the next pages, I have included some of my favorite planes of the 400 or so present on the field. The F-1 Rocket below was recently featured in EAA's Sport Aviation magazine. It was one of the very best homebuilts on the field. Cont'd. |
