GPS Antenna Tray To Cowling Attachment |
|
|
A while back I made a tray to hold the five GPS antennas for the various navigation, weather, and XM radio services. I mounted the tray to the top of the firewall on the engine side with the plan to screw it to the top of the cowling to offset the G-forces that would be applied to the tray during normal flight. Since the cowling to fuselage and baffle attachment is complete, I was able to mark and drill the cowling from underneath and the pull a gentle counter sink into the carbon fiber top of the cowling. I used some stainless steel countersunk washers to ease the pressure on the cowling and to eventually keep the screws from scratching the paint. Once the screws were in place, I was very pleased at the sturdiness of the tray. Whew, one more thing done between now and test flying... |
