First Carpet Arrives - Rear Baggage Area - Part 2 |

I had a discussion with the upholstery vendor and I think we've come up with a solution. I am going to layout all of the various pieces on a 72" wide piece of virtual carpet in my CAD so that we can get a good idea of exactly how much carpet will be required to do the whole thing. We'll add maybe 25% to that amount to account for "do-overs" and whatnot. They will then special order the Bentley carpet in the 72" wide and have it fire-treated and tested. This will get us where we want to be as far as the carpet material is concerned. As far as the bendability, we have decided that I will update my CAD drawings to reflect areas on the individual pieces where no Velcro backing will be applied. This will be primarily the under-tabs and an area perhaps 1" back from any fold lines. This should go a long ways in making the pieces fit like they should. As I mentioned, even with the current extra thick carpet and the ubiquitous Velcro backing, the fit is pretty great. As a matter of fact, the fit is so snug, that I almost don't need to add an Velcro hooks to the metal flooring to keep the carpet in place, certainly in the baggage area. That being said, I think it will still be prudent to add a few just to make sure it doesn't move around. Let me tell you, adding some carpet really made the plane feel like it was nearing completion! Wow! |
