Wing rib design |
|
|
Spent time redesigning the wing rib airfoil. The rib will be built per the plans, aside from a slight change in curvature. The new airfoil is a Riblett GA30U-612, the same airfoil as on the Kitfox IV (and maybe later models?). The airfoil is very similar to the standard Clark Y called for in the plans, except it is just a tad thicker and has a tiny bit of undercamber. The ribs are so similar, in fact, I was able to keep their centerlines in the same geometric plane, but dropped 1/8" on the spars. According to my research, the Riblett GA30U-612, as compared to the Clark Y, has less pitching moment, less drag, and provides better lift. |
