Brief Description:  T-405 Right Fab

I cut another 3.75” off the stock angle with the band saw for the right tank attach bracket. I used the T-410 to trace the rib nose shape for trimming. It is important to note that the right and left brackets are mirror images of each other. This did not cross my mind at all when I made the left one. I double checked it about five times before walking over to the band saw to cut it out. There is no point in making two for one side!

As on the left side, I use the bench sander to bring the ragged saw cut to the marked line.

I also spent some time messing around with the left side parts trying to decide the best way to drill the rivet and fuel pick up line hole. I’m thinking that I should first drill the T-405 on the drill press, then match drill the T-405 and T-410 first (at least two of the holes to maintain alignment) without the rib. Then match drill the T-405 to the rib, and then add the T-410 and drill the rest of the holes. I’ll think about it some more. I also noticed that the T-405 will interfere with the shop heads of the rivets attaching the rib to the skin. I added smooth notches to the T-405 in those rivet locations. It may need some adjustment after those rivets are actually there.

I also ordered a single flop tube and the RV-14 fuel caps from Van’s. I am not happy with the standard fuel caps that I got in the wing kit, and the price of the deluxe caps seemed too high for me. Hopefully the RV-14 caps will be a good choice. I had posted on VAF if anyone had tried the RV-14 caps on a 7, but no one replied in the affirmative. Folks do like the deluxe caps though.

I did some shopping locally for a fly cutter – Home Depot, Harbor Freight, and Sears. None of the stores had them available. No luck either with borrowing one. I ended up ordering one from Aircraft Spruce.
