Brief Description:  Rear Spar start

I spent some time cleaning up the shop and putting tools away from the Idaho dock repair wrap-up trip over Memorial Day holiday before diving back into the project. I’m still scheming on some enhancements to the shop environment like lights, or windows, or drywall, or heat. For today I settled on a more dedicated location for laying out the drawings and assembly instructions, and I hung up a poster!

I fished out all the relevant rear spar parts out and started on the edge prep and marking. Drawing 38 (Fuselage) shows how to trim the rear spar doublers. This drawing is only available in the preview plans set. The dimensioning is a little unusual but with some head scratching I figured it out. Used the metal scribe to mark the cut lines and cut each piece one at a time. Cleaned up the edges on the belt sander and then clecoed like parts together and finished them up on the scotch brite wheel. The plans call out hand straightening of the fork shaped doublers as they end up bowed from the cutting (stamping?) process. With some work I got them pretty close. I don’t think I did this with the equivalent part on the rear spar of the vertical stabilizer. I remember that it was bowed also. I got the other smaller aileron bracket mounting doublers located and clamped but didn’t get to drill anything before quitting for the day.
