Brief Description:  First part replacement order...

-Started HS front spar work
-Drilled to match center 5 holes of HS-710 & 714 angles and HS-703 spar
-Marked HS-710 & HS-714 angles for trimming and then went at with band saw and scotchbrite wheel. I wasn’t happy with the results of my work. I sent a couple photo’s to Van’s technical support and called the support line to see what they thought. I was encouraged to hear that they said they had seen a lot worse and that they thought it looked OK provided I did not violate the 2x diameter edge margin rule. In this case, the hole diameter is 1/8”. That means the closest edge can be 2x1/8 = ¼”. My handy work violates that rule on a couple of the ends. I wasn’t disappointed that I needed to replace them. I didn’t like the looks of them in any case.

Takeaway was:
1) Understand your margin’s when laying out a cutting/finishing operation. The drawing’s may (likely) be calling out the minimum acceptable dimension.
2) If you are operating to the minimum acceptable dimension, don’t cut to the line with the bandsaw! Leave some margin for the finishing step (sander/file/scotchbrite wheel)
-Ordered new parts
