Brief Description:  Tail fin alignment

Made up a bracket to secure the rear of the horizontal stab from .050" aluminum. However, when I made the template I was assuming the stab was close to the 5 degrees positive angle that it's supposed to be set at, but upon checking it with the digital level it was only at 2.5 degrees. After adjusting the hole in the stab spar to get 5 degrees the bracket I made is about a 1/4" too short so I will need to make a taller one.

The method I used to check the horizontal stab incidence was to measure the thickest point of the stabilizer which is .790 (.750 spar with two .020 skins) and the trailing edge thickness is .050. So, I calculated that I needed a .370 spacer on the trailing edge to set the level on and have it parallel to the chord line. Then, I set the digital scale on top of the main shaft and zeroed it, placed it vertically on the front of the main shaft to verify it reads 90 degrees, then set the level on the stab with the rear held up by a 3/8 twist drill measuring .372 on the shank.

Next came the vertical stab alignment which is supposed to point 15-17" to the right of the main shaft center line. I measured and marked 15, 16 and 17" on a stick and clamped it to the main shaft. Sighted down the chord of the vertical fin and also checked with the laser built into the digital level and it looks like it's between 16.5" - 17" so nothing more is needed here until test flights determine any fine tuning.
