Brief Description: Tail Rib Forming Blocks
|
|
After looking at the plans and other sources, namely Russ Erb's and Eric Newton's CDs I saw that I had to make some kind of forming block for the ribs. After studying the plans, all the ribs have a 3/8ths reveal except the ends of the horizontal stab and the vertical fin, which have a 5/8ths reveal. At first I was going to make two blocks out of aluminum because it mills so much easier. But after looking at the profile the 3/8ths block would have to have, it looked a bit thin at the 45. I didn't think the aluminum would hold up very well. So, I made one block out of mild steel, and that is the one that would take the majority of pounding. And I made the other, taller block out of aluminum. That one would only have to make three ribs. I am fortunate that I have most of the ribs from Avipro, but I still need to form others and I wanted to do it right. Besides, I bought this milling machine with a friend, so I figured I needed to make some use of it!
