The aluminum insert provides some structure and edge damage resistance to the lightweight epoxy filler. I mixed some West Systems epoxy with glass bubbles to form a lightweight filler. When it’s the right consistency it really resembles marshmallow fluff! I spread the filler thick on both tips. After it had hardened, I sanded both smooth to match the contour. Job done!
