Brief Description:  Heat Exchanger Tubing Mods Part 1

Another task I have been putting off was the routing of the 2in SKEET tubing for the cockpit heat. My engine is injected, so I don’t need carb heat. I asked a few folks and they recommended I connect the two heat exchangers and then route to the cockpit. I was waiting until all the “stuff” around the engine was complete so I had a good idea as to my options for running the tubing. It was clear that having the inlet and the outlet on the same side wasn’t going to work, so I have to relocate one of the tubes. I wanted to mark the shrouds and send them off to Clint Busnitz at Vetterman for modification, but my friend Jim Harden said; “You have a TIG, weld them yourself!”, so I did. The first one was relatively easy although my welds looked like crap! The only stainless TIG rod I had was pretty thick, so I was fighting the thick rod and the thin sheet at the same time. The welds were close to the edge so warping of the metal was a concern too. I got the right side done, now for the left.
