One thing I need to do before starting on the lower engine cowl is to construct the air box that I bought from Vans Aircraft. It is made for many different types of engines, so it’s not a “one size fits all” project. As instructed, I read through the entire assembly manual and I have an idea as to how this should look when finished. I dived right in and got the top plate fit to the air box plate and riveted in the tabs and nutplates that hold it together. One thing to note is the filter is actually round, but the air box shape is an oval. The tabs hold it in the oval shape. This is actually kind of a critical issue. If the tabs are too close together it will be difficult to shape the filter the correct way without having some odd bulge somewhere.
