Today we were able to get a bit more done. Jim was in-between jobs and gave me a call if I could do an evening in the shop...no problem!
Now that I have the correct nose bearing, we checked the crank bearings with plastigage and again, middle of standard spec! Good news. We were interrupeted for a few hours for JIm to make a house call to fix an alternator problem on a Beaver close by, but when we got back we split the case back apart and set the crank back on the stand. Jim installed the crank gear. We then put the rods on for the last time and called it a night. Next time Jim is available we'll try to get the case halves married together.
