It's pretty well-known that the Airframes Alaska bushwheels (actually any tundra-type tire) are made for gravel and not pavement. Their tailwheel is no exception and the replacement tires are expensive. For those that live on paved airstrips it can be a challenge to keep tires healthy. I plan on test flying with 8.50s, but the tailwheel is the baby bushwheel. A popular replacement is using a 4.00x4 glider tire and matching tube. I bought mine from Seaplanes North and it was a real easy exchange. I’ll save the bushwheel for later on.
