Brief Description:  Wing Attach Fittings Part 11a

Ok, so I’m fitting my new fittings and I go ZIIIPPP with my rotary cutter in the air die grinder across the fitting. Oopsie. I booger another one by just lousy fitting technique. Two oopsies. The good news is they are easy to make, so I did make a couple more rear spar fittings. I made this improvised light table out of a couple of stray light sockets, small bulbs and a piece of Plexiglas sanded on one side. I’ve used it a lot in the past and it is remarkably quick to make a part pattern this way. It saves a trip into the house and paper, ink, etc. I just use a pad of graph paper, very fine Sharpie and a see-through ruler. Trace it quick, cut it out and it’s done! So after a lot of finagling, fussing and fitting, I finally got the right rear spar fitting done! I have to move the front mounts on both wings forward about a wee bit, but it should be easy to just cut the tacks and let it nudge forward. (See previous log entry)

You will see some .020 aluminum spacers in the pictures. When I spoke to Bob Barrows about fitting the wings, he suggested to put a .020 spacer on either side of the spar to allow for a bit of wiggle room for the wings. He said it helps a lot when it comes time to assemble it for the last time at the airport. Sound advice. More fun tomorrow…
