After covering the elevator it became very, painfully, apparent the trim tab hinge points were too close and the sides of the trim tabs were too close to the fabric. The head of the hinge pin wouldn’t fit within the gap when the hinges were aligned. Also, the sides of the trim tabs wouldn’t fit in the gap. Totally my fault. I kept the tolerances close and thought I had compensated enough for the fabric but that wasn’t the case. The only solution, even though the elevators were covered, was to cut the old bushings off and weld on entirely new ones. Fabric will have to be repaired and paint redone. A huge setback. Yuck!
