Brief Description:  Fabric Stains from Cable Grease

One thing that noticed too late is the cables in the belly sat for quite a while in contact with the belly fabric. The staining is from the cable lubricant and I’m afraid that it would cause a problem with paint adhesion. I tried a number of things before, but to no avail. I bought a gallon of this paint prep stuff after watching a YouTube video on autobody painting. This stuff worked! It wasn’t total magic in the sense of just rubbing on and wiping off, but pretty close. I took one of my lint-free wipes and saturated it with the prep. I then did what the instructions said: wipe it down, wait a minute and then wipe with a clean cloth. Since this was fabric and not steel, the cable grease had soaked in and it took a number of times just wiping with prep, waiting a minute then absorbing what was in the fabric with another wipe. It did take some elbow grease, but it finally came out! Hopefully I won’t have any issues with the paint.
