Brief Description:  Wing Attach Fittings Part 17 - Final

Well, it's finally done. Good or bad, the wing mounts are welded in place. I started by fitting the side plates and that took quite a bit longer than I thought…about 30-45 minutes each. The fit needs to be tight because there is so much going on underneath them, welding over clusters, etc., for TIG welding. This is one of many areas that require patience and good welds!

After the four plates were fit, I held them in place with the spacer bar and gave them some good strategic tack welds. Once I was sure they weren’t going to move, I finish welded them as much as I could with the bar in place. About 75-80% of the welds can be made with it in place. When I got to the last bit, I took the bar out and finished the job with about 100psi of Argon left in the tank!. I’m really happy how they look and the spacer bar did the trick. Once the bolts were out, it just slid out of the mounts. It looks like I won’t have any issues with wing fit later on. Just to be sure, I put them back in and they will remain in until I fit the spar bolts and wing struts. If anyone has any doubts as to the strength of the BH structure, they just have to look at the fuselage. Fittings are beefy and those wing mounts are incredibly strong, especially the front! On to the skylight…
