It took me quite a while to determine the spacing for the instruments so it would: 1. Allow for routing wires and whatnot in the back of the panel, 2. Allow for enough space between the gauges, 3. Allow room for switches and circuit breakers, 4. Be functional, and 5. Look appealing. I used an instrument hole knockout punch that I borrowed from a friend and it worked great!
