Brief Description:  Aligning Motor Mount Part 1

After waiting for what seemed as an eternity, my Aircraft Spruce order came in. That's the good news. The bad news is they shipped the wrong tubing. I needed some 5/8ths x .120 for the motor mount bushings and they sent 3/4. Oh well. They are sending a replacement, but it's hard to replace time lost.

I did manage to check the alignment of the motor to the thrust line of the fuselage. I first made the fixture I needed for the engine (see past post), then I made an adjustable fixture on my shop wall for the end of the nylon string. I tied one end to the tail post at the proper height and then made the other end tight on the fixture. I slotted the attaching screw holes for vertical adjustment and welded a bolt for the horizontal adjustment. I had to make the stand-off because it fell right in the middle of my garage door track!

For the purists, the 19 inches is the correct distance from the work table. The centerline is actually 18.5 inches, but I added .5 for the stand off of the bottom longerons.
