Yesterday I found a flaw on my tubing for one of the diagonals. As I've never experienced this before, I put the question out to the Yahoo BH group as to what this is and can I use it. Apparently the tubing is drawn through a series of dies and a chunk of something was drawn through the die while forming the tubing. Quality control must have missed it along the line. I checked my other 5/8ths .035 tubing stock and found another spot. Although the imperfection is slight (+- .002) I decided not to use it in the structure. In the picture I used some 600 grit paper to highlight the imperfections.
I made another diagonal tube to replace the one with mill scale on it. I also cut the 45 degree cuts and fit the front tube. I really agonized over this piece on the fuselage bottom. Why I don't know, but this went really smooth. A lot of tools on the table, but it did go relatively quickly.
The last bit of tubing fitting is the front spar carry-through and some diagonals as well. In order to center the tube to the longerons, I had to put 5/16ths shims under them to bring them up to the middle of the tube. I had a 5/16ths drill bit that I slid under the tubes to verify the distance. I have quite a bit to do tomorrow and probably won't get to it until the next day. I hope by Tuesday or Wednesday to have the top tacked and put aside so I can start putting things together.
