Brief Description:  Drilling holes for Fuselage Oiling Part 2

It really was unnecessary to remove the longeron from the table, so I put the one back and went to the other with my deburring tool, cleaning the holes. I then got on one end and repeated the process with the rag and the blow gun on this one and it seemed to want to hang up. I kept after it and finally got it to go through. It turns out this is probably the best way since the tubing doesn’t need to be realigned, even though it made a bit of a mess. It took a lot longer than I thought, but it was good to do.

I then started at the tail and worked my way forward, rechecking all the measurements. I found a couple of minor errors at stations B and C on the right longeron and it was easy to correct. I didn’t have a set of trammel points (they would have been REALLY handy), so I improvised with my 4ft aluminum ruler, a carbide scribe and a small c-clamp. After that was done, I started at the tail again and refit all the cross tubes and diagonals, checking them for fit and alignment. This is where the marking of the tubes came in handy because all the tubes on the table looked pretty much alike. It saved a lot of time. It was good to recheck everything as well because I found one diagonal that just didn’t fit right. I scratched my head and then I took out the 1/8th inch spacers from under the tube and it fit great. Apparently, I fit that one tube with a spacer missing. I tried to save it, but it turned out just too short, so I fit a new tube. It was getting late and I was tired, so I quit for the night so I wouldn’t make any simple mistakes. I should have it ready to tack together in the next day or so.
