Brief Description:  Drilling holes for Fuselage Oiling Part 1

Today was a good day, but a bit frustrating. I took much longer to do what I needed to do, but that's the way it is sometimes.

I first made sure to mark the location of all the tubes and where they fit using a silver welding pencil. I also made sure all the tubing was marked with a silver sharpie as to the orientation, left and right and which station was at what end on any diagonals. This turned out to be a tremendous help when putting everything back together. After everything was marked, I stripped out all the tubing so only the longerons were in place on the jig table. I got my air drill and put in a 3/32nds bit, took a deep breath and drilled the first hole. I proceeded down the longeron, making holes at every intersection so the corrosion-preventative oil can flow throughout the lower fuselage.

After that was done, I figured it would be a good idea to take out all the metal burrs since they may clog some of the passages or interfere in some way when the oil goes through the tubes. I removed one longeron out of the jig and ran an o ring tool around the inside of each hole to knock the burrs loose. I them held it up while tapping with a rubber mallet. All sorts of junk came out. I then thought it would be a good idea to run a rag through the tube, kind of like cleaning a gun, I found a replacement line for a chalk line and it had the little metal tab on the end you would normally hook on a nail. The snap line string is really strong stuff. I tied a small rag to the end and put it into one end of the longeron. Then, using my air gun I blew it through to the other end. I then took off the smaller rag and tied on a large size so it would fill the tube. I soaked the rag in ACF-50 and then pulled it back through. It worked great!
