Brief Description:  Filling Pull Rivet Holes

After putting in the rivets I really debated whether to fill the holes or not. The deciding factor for me was that the rivets have a steel mandrel. Over time water will eventually get into the holes and rust will start. I didn’t want a bunch of just barely rusty holes in my doors. I borrowed a hole punch from my wife and put masking tape around each rivet in case it got messy. I used an orbital sander and knocked off any burrs from the rivets. I then got a small drill bit and ran it through the holes to deburr them. Lastly, I got a syringe from my wife’s horse supplies and mixed up some extra slow West Systems epoxy. I poured it into the syringe and got to work. I have to admit the process went a lot quicker than I had anticipated. After the epoxy had set overnight I took a razor blade and knocked the excess off before it became hard.
