Brief Description:  Engine Baffling Part 4

Another thing that needed to be done was to make some type of enclosure around the top left and right engine mounts. I have seen a multitude of ways others had done it with aluminum, fiberglass, etc. I even saw someone selling carbon fiber covers for $140! Before I made my decision I decided to look at our local Fred Meyer Aerospace Supply (Kroger) in the housewares/baking section for something that might work. I went to the bakeware and saw a jumbo muffin tin that would work, but the AL was thick and it was $16. My wife was with me and asked what I was looking for and described it as best I could. While I was pondering the muffin tin she pointed to these mugs and asked if they might work. I had walked right by them! They are exactly four inches in diameter and very light. They were perfect. So I bought a couple at $2.50 each and saved myself a ton of work making covers, thanks to my wife!

I cut the bottom 1 1/2in off and removed the handle. I kept the bottom rivet by just grinding the head off on the outside. Once the handle was free I took my rivet squeezer and flattened it out. It worked out great as I would have had to fill the hole with something anyway.
