Brief Description:  Putting BLO in the Lower Longerons Part 1

Time has finally come to do something about corrosion prevention in the lower longerons. Poly Fiber stopped making Tubeseal last year, so choices are a bit limited. I chose boiled linseed oil (BLO) for a variety of reasons. It’s cheap, can be bought just about anywhere, it’s in AC 43-13B, it’s been used for decades and it’s the main ingredient in Tubeseal anyway. I drilled two #30 holes in the lower longerons about 1 ½” from the front motor mount. With the fuselage inverted I figured it would run all the way back to the tail. Then I could spin it in all directions and then empty out what I could, rosette weld the holes shut and then turn the fuselage right side up. Any oil burned would be replaced with residual oil seeping back down to the low point. I made sure the longeron was indeed sloped toward the tail by about a bubble’s worth on the level.
