I wanted the part to have a bit extra depth so using some 3M 77 I put on some extra 1 1/2in pink foam. Once the foam glue was solid, I used a Surform hand-plane and shaped the sides and tail. I used my random orbit sander to finish some, but it was pretty aggressive. I used just plain old hand-sanding once I got close to the final shape. It actually went pretty quickly as the foam sanded nicely. But it sure made a big mess. My shop vac came in very handy!
