Brief Description:  Wing Tip Lights Part 3

I mounted the plugs onto the saw horse so I could work on them unobstructed. I gave them three coats of Rexco release wax each, then sprayed them with three coats of PVA mold release liquid. Once everything was dry, I glassed just one plug…just in case it wouldn’t go well. I started with 3/4oz mat (mistake). It was hard to form around the contours even though it was lightweight. It just didn’t want to stay stuck. I used a sheet of peel-ply the keep the mat on the mold and held it in place with map push pins. The next plug I cut some woven strips on a 45 degree angle (bias tape) and did that as the first coat. That worked out wonderful. So, the first mold was mat, the woven. The second was woven, then mat. Both were held in place with peel-ply to keep everything in place while the resin set.
