Time for mounting the ELT. I have seen a number of installations of ELTs to aluminum plates behind the baggage compartment. But, ACK installation instructions were very clear that it has to be attached to a primary structure in the fuselage: “The ELT shall be mounted to primary load-carrying structures such as trusses, bulkheads, longerons, spars, or floor beams.”
So, I chose an area that looked most likely to meet the requirement and still be reasonably accessible from the baggage compartment. I made a template out of mild steel and positioned some mounting tabs using clecos. Once the tabs were in place and tacked I did one more check of fitment and finish welded the tabs.
