Brief Description:  Fitting the Firewall Part 2

Now that the bushings are proper length, I put the firewall on the fuselage with clamps and made sure everything lined up. Once that was done I used a centering punch through each bushing to locate the holes in the firewall sheet metal. I carefully drilled the holes by using a stainless steel bit to make the pilot holes, then using an Irwin Unibit I enlarged the holes to fit over the bushings. I kinda messed up here because the original build manual said NOT to sandwich the firewall in between the motor mount and mount bushings. I had the older version and made the holes big to accommodate the bushings and the concave weld bead. The change was that the firewall can be sandwiched in between. That make the drilling and aligning a LOT easier. Oh well…it still works just fine.
