Brief Description:  Front Doors Part 8

I’ve been gone for almost a month taking care of family matters, so it’s good to be back in the shop!

The installation instructions for the latches say the proper angle of the actuating arms need to be slightly over-centered. This is tough to do for the front latch rod because the geometry is all wrong if you put it up higher. The front pin, when extended, would have to go straight into the vertical 3/4in tube in the front of the fuselage. That’s not a good idea. The pin needs to engage the boot cowl former a few inches lower, hence the dog leg in the latch rod. Once I had all the nuances figured out, I got the rods made and welded everything together. It was a challenge figuring it all out, but it finally came together. I used some leftover ½ inch channel for guides for the rods. I’ll put in some nylon snap bushings so they don’t squeak!
