I took the last few steps to fine-tune before welding the T-handle on the latch pin. I took some valve grinding compound and put it on the rod. I clamped the brass bushing in a vise. I chucked the pin in a drill and lapped the brass bushing and the pin. I cleaned it up, cut it to length and welded the threaded T-handle on the pin. Although the brass bushing is captured on the rod, the spring and pin can be removed, cleaned and lubed. If necessary a new spring can be put on too. I always like building for the person that's going come later. IIt is really smooth and I'm happy with it. The knob is from an old electrical switch and works great.
