I spent a good part of the afternoon fitting door parts. They are made out of 3/4in .035 square tubing. The lower part of the front door frame needed to be fitted to the boot cowl former, so I made a quick jig to bend the tubing. I cut and polished an arc out of a piece of 3/4in aluminum plate. Once that was done, I got a couple of pieces of flat stock and welded a piece of square tubing at one end to act as a fulcrum and hold the plates together. It really kept the square tubing from deforming and I made a nice arc for the lower frame.
I had a real issue on how much reveal to have for the door frame, especially the top front frame where it meets the windshield. I played with it for way too long and invited a mechanic friend over to take a look and offer some advice. He asked why I was doing the doors now? Couldn’t I wait until all the trim and other pieces were fit and then I could make the doors fit just perfect? I never thought of it that way, but there is no reason not to wait. So I put away all the cut tubing and will make and fit the doors once the other pieces are in place.
