Brief Description:  Wing Attach Fittings Part 8a

So, I did it! I actually tacked in the front wing fittings after fiddling with it (read procrastinating) for days. Like every other seemingly major job, I have to do it sometime and I have thought about it from every angle. However, one thing occurred to me after tacking the front fittings was that I should have set the dihedral at the same time as everything else. The reason being the front spar and the rear spar holes are not in line with each other…almost, but not quite. When the wings are flat, the holes line up a certain way. Lift up the wing tip about 3 inches and the aft spar hole will move ever so slightly outward, maybe enough to keep a bolt from going through without some “persuasion”. So using the now secure front mounts as pivots, I elevated the wing tips to about 3 inches. This actually changed the alignment quite a bit, mainly not knowing how much of the wing weight was on the stand and how much was at the front bolt. Both bolts turned free before, but now they were tight. Something was binding. But it was an easy fix now that the front mounts are in place. I got the bolts out, reset the stands to the proper elevations and put the bolts back in. I checked the wing alignment and the rear holes to each other with the water level one more time and now it’s good to go. Alignment is still about as perfect as I can get it…within a millimeter along the entire span and spot on to the tail post from the wing tips!
