Brief Description:  Wing Attach Fittings Part 7

Sometimes life conspires against shop time and this was one of those days, but I did get a few hours in late in the afternoon. I was able to fine-tune the wing attach points and I’m happy to say everything is absolutely straight, dead-nuts on, not even a bit off. I readjusted the mounts a bit and got the wing tips to the tail post exactly the same. The laser was perfect along the fuselage centerline and the perpendicular line with the wings were within a millimeter wingtip to wingtip…no kidding! The water level made sure both wings were at the same incidence. BTW, this is a pretty expensive laser and really accurate so I’m confident it’s right on.

HOWEVER, the distance between the front bolts that hold on the wings is not per the plans. The measurement should be 44 5/8th and I have 44 7/8ths. The distance between the bolt hole in the fitting and the top longeron centerline should be 1 1/16ths and I have 1 3/16ths. In effect I have added 1/4th of an inch to the wing span, 1/8th inch on both sides. This is why the side plates in my 5th Kitlog entry were off a bit (see image 3 on that log). Three things I can do that I can think of: 1. Remake the front fittings and drill the hole closer. 2. The front is only drilled out to 1/4 and needs eventually to get to 3/8ths. I could do that now and favor the inside of the hole by 1/8th and make a bushing for the makeup and leave the spar alone for now. 3. Weld it in place as-is and not worry about it. The rear mounts I have to redo if I go with option 3 because they are off by that much too (too short). Just another step in the learning process!
