Brief Description:  Wing Attach Fittings Part 6

Not too bad a day today. I did get some quality time on the tractor moving snow, but it’s a pretty rare occurrence this winter so I’m grateful it’s not more. I did get quite a bit done on the wings, but it doesn’t look like it.

First I got a water level and checked both front and back fitting areas. The fuselage was indeed level and equal height at the tube centerline on both sides. I got the wings leveled up on the stands to the proper angle and height for the wing fittings to be in the proper place. I have a great advantage in using the actual wings as jigs for the fittings. I will know for sure the fittings will be correctly aligned. I bolted the front inside “U” fitting to the wing spar attach point and set the height of the fitting in relation to the fuselage. I clamped them in place. I then took my laser level and shot a beam along the leading edge to ensure the wings were parallel to each other. I taped some 5x7 note cards the leading edges as target cards. It worked great and now the wings are as straight as I can make them. I did measure the aft fitting distance and it has to be tweaked about a 1/16th. I measured the distance from the tail post to the wing tips and came within 3/8ths of an inch. The 1/16th adjustment at the aft spar fitting should take care of that. I’ll still triple-check everything tomorrow, but I hope to have at least the front fittings tacked in place.
