Well, this was an exercise in futility. I started to cut and form the control rod ends. I was working away in the shop when I realized I had cut and fitted the bottom of the stick 90 degrees to where it should be. I can't believe I did it, but I did. I thought about cutting it at an angle and putting in an internal sleeve, but I won't make the specs in AC 43-13B for a splice. I don't know if this really qualifies as a splice in a structural tube. I really don't want to make a new stick assembly, but it looks grim. I hate doing things over because of a dumb mistake!
