Brief Description:  Making Rudder Pedal Parts Part 1

Started back on the project after too many distractions.

I need to weld the fuselage, but I wanted a little practice before I started in. I figured instead of burning scrap, I could make something useful. So I decided to work on the ridder pedal assembly. Wow...talk about a colledction of small parts! I'm putting brakes on the co-pilot side so that doubled the small parts count.

I first bent the 1/2in .049 for the toe brakes. You can see in the first picture the jig I made. That lasted about two pulls on the tubing. I went to solid oak and a square bar of tool steel as a back-up and cold-bent the tubing. That is some tough stuff. I took it easy and slowly worked out the pieces I needed, being very careful not to kink the tube. It turned out fine.

I then made all the brackets and mountsout of the appropriate sheet steel. The 3/4 in rotary cutter made very clean mounts for the brake cylinders, but it made a real mess. Lots and lots of very fine and needle-sharp shavings
