I needed to mount the ELT on a sturdy area of the aircraft. The ELT install instructions warn against the floor of the airplane as a place to install. Not sure why.
Regardless, I needed to "frame" in the baggage area so that I could eventually hang a cloth baggage bin. So, I used the resultant shelf as the ELT mount.
Fabricated two 1/8 inch angles for the horizontal braces. On the ELT side I used .040 for the shelf plate as I wanted it to have a bit of stability and not flex. On the opposite side I used .032. Cleaned and treated all parts. Primed and assembled. Installed and riveted. The sidewall angle serves as the support for the outside of the shelf.
The baggage bin will be afixed to the inner surfaces of the self and existing box sections. It will reside above the elevator push rod and thus prevent any baggage contact.
