Six hours! Nothing worked the way it should. The tank wouldn't fit now that the glareshield is riveted; yes you have to rivet the glareshield before placing the tank. Finally, after pushing and shoving and prying, the thing just slid in like it wanted to all along.
Things got worse from there. Trying to get the tank straps bolted together was a horror. Step 1; force your body into some sort of unholy position which will cause you to walk funny for the next 5 days. Step 2: Pull and pinch the uncooperative straps together while trying to place the appropriate hardware. Step 3: resort to using vise grips to clamp the opposing sides - great idea right until the clamp lets go and the falling pliers contact your skull. Step 4: Repeat step 3 approximately 34 times. Step 5: Weep with joy when it actually comes together.
Also covered the glareshield with some fairly light marine vinyl. I'm sure it would be toxic when burned but if there are flames in that particular area your pretty much not going to care.
