Brief Description: Aileron nose skin and trailing edge
Even though I didn't make a lot of construction progress today I was able to complete a couple big projects that needed to get done. I finished bending all the parts I need to bend in the MDF brake. I bent the flap trailing edge parts too. I've been kind of dreading this - I had bent one before and screwed it up. I don’t have enough material to screw up another one.
The nose skin was a pretty simple 90 degree bend. The MDF brake doesn't quit make the full bend so I tried a couple different techniques including setting the foot back. That didn’t do much good. I ended up having to use a long block and hammer to complete the bend.
I already had one of the aileron trailing edge parts bent from the last time I had the MDF brake set up. Last time was more work than I liked so I've been thinking about and tried some different ideas.
Like before I rolled the edges first. Then I bent the piece as far as I could in the brake. Then I used a 3 lb deadblow hammer to gently bend it just past 90 deg. Then I put the piece under the foot and used the brake to bend it further. The last step was to clamp it between a 2x6 and the table and press it the rest of the way.
It went much better this time and it’s a sense of relief to have this done. I cut the flap trailing edges to size and temporally put them on the flaps. I’ll rivet them on later when I fit the flaps to the wing.
