Brief Description:  Oshkosh EAA AirVenture 2011

On Sunday, Sylvia and I made our way up to Oshkosh Wisconsin, for the annual EAA AirVenture air show. This is a week long air show that is a must see for anyone interested in aviation. This is the third year that I have attended the air show and this year was very special for a few reasons.

It was a real joy to be able to have Sylvia go with me this year. We had a great time together and she was a lot of fun to have with me. It is funny how just having her there made the experience different than it had been in the past when I had been there by myself. It seemed that I might have slowed down a little and just enjoyed hearing about the things Sylvia would comment on. Sylvia did great! We got up every day at 6:30am and were at the show at 8:00am and left about 6:00pm Monday and Tuesday. The weather was beautiful and sunny! The temperatures were about 85 for a high and it felt great compared to the 100 + we have been having here. The only time I heard Sylvia complain was about the end of the first day going to the car she said her feet really hurt. I can't complain about that, mine did too!

On Monday morning as we were at the front check in counter of AirVenture, we ran into some friends from my local EAA chapter, Al and Brenda. We knew they were coming but never would have expected to run into them like that at such a large event. It was great to see them and they informed use that Shayne and Phyllis were on the way in flying from Neosho, MO and were about an hour or so away. I had spoken with Shayne and Phyllis a week before and they were still unsure if they would be ready to make the trip. It is hard to explain how excited I was for them to be able to make this trip for the first time in at airplane that they had just completed a few months ago. This is the second airplane Shayne and Phyllis have built, but the first one they have flown to Oshkosh.

I had a wonderful time talking to other fellow Sonex builders and it was great to see Russ Halverson again with his new Sonex.
