Brief Description: Flight Training - Sports Star EVSS Long X-Country
Today I completed my long cross country flight from Fayetteville to Heber Springs then to Conway and back to fayetteville. FYV - HBZ - CWS - FYV About 4.0 hr total in the sports star. My butt was very tired to say the least. I flew to Heber at 5500, heber to Conway at 4500, and Conway to Drake at 6500. I passed a few broken clouds from Conway to Drake. I had flight following on all my legs except from Heber to Conway. I really like having the peace of mind of having an extra set of eyes looking out for you. Heber was very quiet but Conway had a few planes in the air to keep up with. I am starting to appreciate a towered airport. My landing were all good but while slowing down at heber the plane got a little squirrely. I think I got a little heavy on the right brake pedal. When I left Conway I got flight following from Little Rock. It sounded like they got my call sign screwed up and sure enough they passed me off to a another freq. for little rock the next operator noticed that they didn’t input it correctly. Sometimes they talk so fast it is hard to tell if they are saying your call sign correctly or talking to someone else. So all in all I talked to Razorback, Memphis center, Little Rock, FSS Jonesboro radio, and Drake. Lots of good radio experience for sure. I got out at Heber and went into the FBO and went to the restroom but that was my only complete stop. At Conway I just had to pull off the run way to wait for traffic and regroup for the next leg. I didn’t talk to little rock until after I left Conway. I contacted them to get flight following back to drake. I was VFR on 1200 from heber to Conway. It was only about a 25 min flight. I activated my flight plan over the radio before I took off at drake contacting Jonesboro radio on 122.3. And then just called them on the phone when I got back to drake. A lot of times when I was listening to Little rock I could only hear the tower half of the conversation.
