Brief Description:  Replacement of a few spar rivets

This afternoon, Matt came back over to help me replace the rivets that he noticed that needed to be replaced. These are driven solid rivets, so it really helps to have the second set of hands when installing them. Well, in this case, having someone that was knowledgeable and had the proper tools made this an easy job! Thank you Matt for your help today! We only had one rivet that we had to be drilled out and redone, out of about 12 or so that we installed. This was a great learning experience for me as the only experience I have had driving rivets was at a 1 hr Oshkosh sheet metal class that I took a couple years ago. I was sold on idea of using a pneumatic rivet gun for driving the rivets in the spar. I would defiantly recommend anyone getting ready to build a spar to use the pneumatic gun instead of hand driving the rivets. Using the pneumatic gun was very fast once we had the air pressure set and practiced driving a few rivets in some scraps.

When we were finished I drove to Matt’s hanger to see his BearHawk project. It is very cool to see other totally different types of airplanes being built by. The construction of the BearHawk is tube framed fabric covered airplane with sheet metal wings. This is going to be a great airplane! Keep up the good work Matt!
