Today, we fitted all the rings which required testing the gap clearance at 2 locations in the cylinder. We used a rotary grinder to achieve the proper gap. Then using a ring compressor, we insatlled the cylinders. After that we installed the valve pushrod tubes and tried to install the pushrods. That's when we found that preservative oil had been left in the hydralic lifters. We had to remove the pushrod tubes and disassemble the hydralic lifters in place. We could then drain the oil and reassemble the lifter. Then we re-installed the push rod tubes, pushrods and rocker arms. We checked the dry lifter clearance and then installed the valve covers. On to the oil pump, accessory gears and fuel pump push rod. The accessory case was installed. Pretty much a full day.
