Brief Description: Engine came in!!!
|
|
Picked up the motor from the Yellow Freight terminal today!!
The thing is Beautiful!! It is a Lycoming IO-360 modified and built up by Mattituck out on Long Island.
It sports roller lifters, dual P-Mag electronic ignition systems, Precision Airmotive Fuel Injection, horizontal cold air intake plenum and Mattituck's Red-Gold package that includes too many upgrades to list here.
Although it is a Lycoming engine, built with the same parts as the certificated motors and built to the same assembly and service bulletins, it is nonetheless an un-certified or "experimental" catagory engine. No biggie, it's all the same as the certified product, just less money! It can never be installed in a certificated airplane, but so what.
On the dyno at Mattituck it put out 192 hp vs. the stock 180. The cold air intake is a pretty good investment as that's what makes the difference mostly.
The motor also utilizes 8.5:1 compression ratio pistons, so I'll be able to run auto fuel if I want to in the future. Course I'll have to find 93 octane with no ethanol, but it's still an option.
This will be a great motor for the 8.
Brother Tom brought Sue's van to haul it. Boy, a couple inches more crate size and it wouldn't have fit!! Sue and nephew Nick came to the house to help unload. Went well.
Now I just want to get it hanging, but there's still so much to do.
A couple of the desiccant plugs that were installed at Mattituck are already saturated. A quick e-mail and I've learned that I can disassemble them, put the desiccant in a pan and bake it until it's dry again and re-use it. Gotta keep this thing dry for the next year or so until it's in service!
