Brief Description:  Installed windshield

Silicon rubber that Pipistrel provided (now 3 years ago) had hardened so I had to order some new tubes (they use a neutral cure silicon rubber without acidic compounds) which is not normally supplied at your local hardware store so I had to order it online ((SIKA-432055) Sikasil-N Plus US, Black, Neutral Cure Silicone Assembly Sealant). Once I recieved this, I applied it in abouth a ~ 3/8" x 1/8 thick line around the outer portion of the windshield frame. Then with a helper and 1 rivet installed in the center top and center bottom of the windshield to line up holes, place windsheild on the opening and using a pnumatic rivet gun (so much easier to rivet without scratching the windshield or fuselage when rivet pops). Next installed the two long rivets that secure the windshield braces. Finshed the rivets on the top of the windshield working from the center out. then started down the sides, alternating from 2 top rivets for 1 bottom rivet (again working out from center) so that that last rivet installed is the in the center of the half circle on both the right and left side at the bottom the the windshield. Used a cut up plastic desposable plate to "scoup" up the excess silicon rubber that squeezes out bending the plastic scraper in a slight semi circle and cleaning off frequently with paper towels. When excess silicon is scraped off, run the plastic scraper in oppose direction to smooth and fill in any little voids that might remain. Left excess that was on fuselage and widshield to dry so it could be pulled/scraped of later. Doing it over I would have worked a little harder to remove from fuselage because it took a little effort to scrape with my fingernail after it hardened.
