Brief Description: Cut out instrument panel with CNC router
Purchased Inventables CNC router to route out all of my instrument locations in my panel. This was the only way I could see to get everything to fit with the tight tolerances needed to get everything to fit. Inventables CNC machine is an OK CNC router but it does not have a very stable X axis so the router tends to chatter if you try and rout too fast. Next time I will build my own router (you can buy all the parts online). The router has been useful for modifying and creating lots of parts for the airplane. I used V-Carve Pro software to input all the panel cutout files from Dynon and then layed them out using the V-Carve software. Purchased a special routing bit for carbon fiber, mounted the instrument panel to the Inventables X-Carve and let it rip (after a few trial runs in other materials). Also put a drill bit in the router and let the V-Carve drill the mounting holes as well. This worked extremely well and all my instruments just slipped into place
